Birds are funny, interesting and chuckly. At the same time, they take care of gardens. To attract more birds to your garden, it is necessary to provide plenty of food and water.
Start with feeders
Here are several types of feeders:
- They invite pigeons, starlings, sparrows. A feed tray with a lattice is a better option rather than a solid bottom to ensure drainage.
- They encourage finches, blue jays, buntings, woodpeckers, sparrows, tomtits to visit your garden. Hung them on trees. At the same time, create hopper feeders for birds.
- Use pipe feeders. They are cylindrical with tiny holes for feeding. They allow the use of smaller seeds. Thus, you will attract more small birds: finches, sparrows, tomtits, nightingales.
Provide a variety of food for birds
Various birds eat different food. You should have several feeders. The following types of feed are good for birds:
- sunflower seeds;
- flax seeds;
- seed mixtures;
- salted lard;
- sweet water.
Install feeders in safe places
To avoid birds` facing with predators, as well as to prevent birds from crashing into house windows, it is necessary to install feeders in safe places. It is considered safe to place the feeder at a distance of 3 feet from a window.
Erect feeders not far from natural shelters (trees or shrubs). Birds can hide there in case of danger. The ideal location is 10 feet away from bushes and trees.
Take care of feeders
It is important to change seeds for birds regularly. Do this every 2-3 days. You should also wash feeders. Thus, you remove any harmful bacteria and fungi that can develop in stagnant food and water, especially in case of rainy and wet weather.
Provide your garden with water sources
Birds need a fresh, clean source of water for drinking and bathing. Use bird baths 1-4 inches deep. Alternatively, you can use a pond or a small fountain. Birds are attracted by the sound of running water.
You need to change the water every 2-3 days in the bird bathing bath. Place a tight lid over the bathtub, at a height of 10 feet as a shelter from predators for birds.
